McPherson is Professor in USC's School of Cinematic Arts and Director of the Harman Academy for Polymathic Studies. She is author of "Reconstructing Dixie" (Duke, 2003), co-editor of "Hop on Pop: The Politics and Pleasures of Popular Culture" (Duke, 2003) and "Transmedia Frictions" (California, 2014), and editor of "Digital Youth, Innovation and the Unexpected" (MIT, 2008.) "Feminist in a Software Lab" is forthcoming from Harvard University Press (2017).
