Simpson was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin to a Syrian immigrant father and the daughter of a mink farmer, who was the first person in her family to attend college. Simpson is the author of six novels (so far), most recently, “Casebook: A novel.” She's received some prizes and two of her works have been adapted to film. She lives in Santa Monica.
