Bradfield, born in San Francisco in 1955, has written several novels - including "The History of Luminous Motion" (1989),
"Animal Planet" (1994), and the recent "Dazzle Resplendent: Adventures of a Misanthropic Dog" - as well as several collections of short stories, and a collection of essays. He reviews books regularly for the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times.
