McMahon is deputy editor, books, at Common Sense Media, a nonprofit website that helps parents, kids, and educators navigate the landscape of media and technology. She is also copy editor of the literary journal Zyzzyva, author of "Revolution in the Bleachers," former deputy editor of the San Francisco Chronicle's Books section, a freelance book editor, and a member of the National Book Critics Circle.
