Kaplan holds the Norman Lear Chair in Entertainment, Media, and Society at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and is an award-winning columnist for the Jewish Journal. In the Jimmy Carter administration, he was chief speechwriter to Vice President Walter F. Mondale, and he was deputy campaign manager of Mondale’s 1984 presidential race.
